The Washington Wildcats came out on top against the Sumner Sabres in their home opener, 39-20 on September 1st, 2023. Click “Read More” to find out how they pulled off the win.

The Wildcats came out ready to play. The crowd, cheerleaders and coaches were all hype and ready to go. The Wildcats opened the game with the ball.  Quarterback  Ja’Quarey Williams Rushed for the inaugural touchdown after a great drive led by the push of the offensive line. They were battling back to back in the trenches which gave the Wildcats momentum and that clearly set the tone for the Wildcats Offensively.

Center Devan Harris was a huge key factor to that Offensive Line. He racked up pancake after pancake and ultimately showed his dominance on the Field.   On the Defensive side of the ball for the Wildcats, Defensive Lineman Ryan Edwards racked up 5 tackles. Freshman Safety Nick Carter recorded  2 interceptions and sophomore Shon Williams led the team in tackles ending up with 12. These guys really balled out as the Wildcats went into the half up 27-0.

The Sabres came out in the second half strong scoring back to back touchdowns. Wide Receiver Mekhi Neely had a receiving touchdown, running back Jayden Gordon rushed for 1 touchdown, and defensive End Kyran Washington ended the game with 6 Tackles and 1 Sack. The Sabres closed the gap and got it down to a two score game, but wide receiver Xavyer Powell caught a 16 yard touchdown to seal the deal.

Overall both teams played to the best of their abilities on both defense and offense, and it seems that Kansas City football is trending upward.
