What’s your favorite thing to do on Halloween?  Some people like to go to the movies, hand out candy, or even trick-or-treating. But the most brave partakers like to go to haunted houses.  From castles to hotels, Kansas City has so many haunted places to be explored!   1. Sallie House- Atchison, KS

Once inhabited by a doctor and his family, the Sallie House is said to be one of the most haunted places in Kansas City.  At 6 years old, Sallie underwent surgery for appendicitis.  Due to complications, Sallie didn’t come out alive. Sallie is said to now haunt the house.  Sallie leaves scratches and bruises, harming any man that dares to visit.

Overlooking the Kaw River, the ominous Sauer Castle stands tall for all ghost hunters and thrill seekers to enjoy.  It is believed that after their deaths in the late 1900’s the Sauer family began to hunt their family home.  In the autumn, it is claimed that the two lovers can be seen dancing in the top of the tower.  The maidens walk the fourth floor from morning to evening, stories of murder and suicide, and empty love fill the home’s haunted history.

Experience the Elms! Where the ghosts are…friendly? The Elms have been through multiple fires, in which the staff blame one of the spirits that reside there.  Near the lap pool, a gambler from the Prohibition stays.  Inside the hotel, the staff are advised by a woman in a 1920’s maiden uniform.  There are many mysteries waiting to be solved!

Built in the 1800’s by Harvey and Sophia Vaile, the Vaile Mansion remains one of the most haunted places in Kansas today.  Two years after the building was formed, tragedy struck the home when Sophia was diagnosed with stomach cancer and later found dead due to a morphine overdose.  It is rumored that any passer-by might be able to catch a glimpse of poor Sophia in the windows of the mansion.  Waiting for her husband to return home.

Have you ever seen a sight like this?  The John Wornall house is home to lots of civil war history.  Some say that spirits of civil war soldiers can be seen patrolling the home.  While other spirits who walk the yard vanish.  On the inside, things are moved around, and even the gun cabinet has been touched.  Causing panic in the neighborhood.
