“Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven’t planted” - David Bly. If college is your plan for achieving a successful future, be ready for the challenge and know that it will all be worth it in the end. Click ‘Read More’ to find out how to succeed at the collegiate level.

College is for new beginnings and new experiences. It doesn't matter if it's in state or out of state. You will meet new people everyday from your roommates, to your hallmates, to students all around campus. ”I would be the first person to attend college [in my family] and it'll be my first step to real independence“ said Christian a Washington High School graduate. College really is the start of your career.

The first thing you should know about college is the pros and cons. Jobs increasingly require college degrees. The average college graduate makes over $570K more than any high school diploma could ever offer in a life span. College simply offers better employment opportunities. “Being in college really gives you the opportunities to get a better job for a career.” Christian said. College expands a variety of career choices and sets up future generations for better lives. “You live such a healthier life knowing you have college to rely on.“ Christian said.

Now there are cons that come with college.  College isn't meant for everyone . Student debt overwhelms many students. It can lead to them not graduating and wasting the governments money and their own money in the long term. Making the milestone of a college diploma hard to attain for a lot of people, because they don't have anyone or anything to rely on. “College debt is a big one. Student debt is the stress of college and financial stress. Depending on your career choice , some careers you have to experience beforehand to be able to join that career field,” Christian said. Another con is that a lot of people end up going to college for jobs that don't necessarily need a degree or certification.

You don't need to go to college in order for you to be successful! Learning trade positions will always be a good alternative for people who don’t see college as their path. College can't guarantee you a future career. It's a risk that most people feel is worth taking. “It expands variety of career choices and not just a job, sets up a future generation to better living.  [It gives you] motivation to step outside your bubble and see new things in life. Christian said. Sticking with the long term goal will end up benefiting you and your craziness of stability if everything is done right. There's also a lot of things you can do to keep on track with debt, that's why it's very important to look into scholarships or grants.

Yes college can be overwhelming but, I think it offers up so many opportunities. Debt can be looked at like an investment into your future career, similar to stocks.  With that said what are your future plans? Comment below.
