Rocking On The Radio

By: JohVonte’ Ross

When was the last time you rode in a limo? It’s probably been awhile, let alone riding in a limo on a school field trip. I know for me it's a very rare occurrence. That said, Mr. Moses Wyatt of the Jegna Klub made sure students got to show up in style as he booked a limousine for a field trip to Cumulus Media which houses some of the top radio stations in the metro area. Click ‘Read More’ to learn about the students’ experience at one of Kansas City’s top media locations.

To start off the field trip, the students were taken to dinner at Cinzettis, an Italian buffet in Overland Park. “We operate outside the normal. So the field trip had to be outside the normal.” Mr. Moses Wyatt explains. “What better way to start the field trip off than by our transportation being a chauffeur-driven limousine. Something most of the students had not experienced before.” Moses said. Field trips give students the chance to step away from the everyday lifestyle and gain different experiences and this by far was the perfect parallel.

After the dinner the students were taken to the Cumulus Media station. They were greeted at the entrance by Boogie D, a Disc Jockey for 107.3. We then went  upstairs to one of the conference rooms for an introduction and quick Q&A. There the students picked the brains of multiple radio personalities. One of the premiere themes was always learning as much as you can for the field of your choice because there’s so many opportunities and you never know where you can end up. “All the students in attendance received exposure to a new experience”.  Mr. Wyatt said. Most of the students in attendance explained that they had never looked into a future in the radio business. By the end of the field trip they had made connections, gotten endorsements and received exposure that began to shift their thinking.

Mr. Wyatt wanted to put the students in a situation where they felt special while learning about a new career, and as a student who went on the field trip he accomplished that goal. We got a ride in a limo, had a quality meal, and we got to meet some of greater Kansas City’s top radio personalities. As a student who attended you could feel the care that was taken in the planning of this field trip. We learned to keep pushing, and reach for more than just the status quo.
